President of the Republic of Slovenia His Excellency Borut Pahor visited Geneva on 19 and 20 June 2018. Besides the address to the Human Rights Council he visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and made a speech at the reception on the occasion of the Slovenian Statehood Day which took place at the World Intellectual Property Organization.
In his address to the Human Rights Council, President Pahor affirmed Slovenia’s strong commitment to multilateralism the central pillar of which is the UN. Slovenia has been active in the Human Rights Council since it was established in 2006 and remains fully committed to the Council’s work and objectives. Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva Michael Møller and High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein were present during the address to the Human Rights Council.
During his visit to CERN, President Pahor was welcomed by Director General Dr Fabiola Gianotti. Dr Eckhard Elsen, Director for Research and Computing, presented the activities of CERN which was followed by the visit to the ATLAS underground experimental area and the large hadron collider tunnel guided by Director for Accelerators and Technology Dr Frédérick Bordry. Slovenian scientists working at CERN were also present at the visit.
President Pahor gave an address during the reception on the occasion of the Slovenian Statehood Day, which was hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and took place at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). On the margins of the reception President Pahor met with Director General of WIPO Francis Gurry.
During the visit President Pahor also held a meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab and President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach.
